Minimizing the Hazards of Night Time Driving 
For years, truck manufacturers have emphasized safety in their new designs. And rightly so. Nighttime driving presents serious risks to operators of trucks, buses, RVs, and other heavy vehicles. Each year, more than 90,000 nighttime accidents occur with large vehicles, many due to adverse weather conditions. Drivers lack the ability to quickly reduce speed, fatigue can negatively affect reaction time, and vision gets severely impaired in the dark. In fact, according to a study by Dynamic Safety Resources, “a person with 20/20 vision during daylight is reduced to 20/50 at best when driving at night”. 

FLIR’s PathFindIR, a thermal camera system, reduces the hazards of night time driving, allowing drivers to see as much as five times further, with improved clarity, than standard headlights. PathFindIR’s camera component is fixed to the grill of the vehicle, while video is displayed on your existing or aftermarket monitor. Now, drivers can detect, monitor, and avoid potential danger from far distances, enabling safer driving and a reduced amount of accidents. 

See Through Any Type of Weather 
With video image quality, PathFindIR lets drivers detect potential hazards through smoke, fog, rain, snow, and in total darkness. Although adverse conditions such as heavy fog will affect any driver vision enhancement system, thermal imaging cameras such as the PathFindIR have been shown to continue to provide useful information in conditions of reduced visibility, such as haze and smoke. Also, the PathFindIR allows drivers to detect and avoid animals entering or hovering near the roadway, and avoid collisions with stopped or disabled vehicles on the road. 

Durability for All Conditions
PathFindIR includes the same advanced technology that FLIR developed for the military and law enforcement agencies. As such, PathFindIR is extremely durable, and has an operating temperature range of -40C to +80C.
